What we Expect from You
In school, you're not trusted to make your own decisions. You have to ask to go to the bathroom, you have to eat at specific times, and many of your basic freedoms are to some degree, restricted. That is not the case here. You are in complete control of your body and your actions, and that comes with added responsibility. We will ensure that this march is a safe, inclusive, and expressive place, and in return we ask that you act maturely and with consideration for others marching with you.
What is this Protest?
This protest is to bring our demands for Queer and Trans Safety, Joy, and Autonomy to both our state and federal governments, because what's happening legislatively and socially to queer folks is unacceptable. It is also to bring queer joy and voices out of the closets and into the streets, and make Denver ring with our chants. There are many different ways to protest. Sit-ins, marches, strikes, walk-outs, vigils, and other types of demonstrations have all been used to get attention and make voices heard.Protests are a way for people to express themselves and the hurt that unjust systems, governments, and societies inflict on them. The emotions that people may feel at a protest include anger, grief, sadness, passion, drive, and hope. At some protests, people channel those emotions into destruction in order to be heard. Destruction is effective as a protesting technique because unjust systems care more about property than they do about the voices of the people they hurt. This protest is not a destructive protest. This is a constructive protest. We are building a better community by bringing our loud, proud, and queer voices to the city. Yes, we are angry. Yes, we want to be heard. But this protest is for our joy. It's for us to be happy, and to have our governments recognize that we will be here and we will be joyful regardless of what they say or do. Bring your anger, but shout with joy, power, and heart.
